Welcome to the HFRS Golf Society

The HFRS Golf Section not only has it's own internal Golf Competitions, it is also the platform for golfers in Hertfordshire to represent the county in National Events like the Sheriffs Cup. The opportunity is also there for players to represent the East District & England Fire Brigades in National Events.

The Golf Section is keen to increase it's membership so that it can ensure it's continued success in national events & to also just enjoy the game of golf.
All Fire Fighters, whole time, retained & retired are welcome to join the HFRS Golf Society as are non uniformed staff within the Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service. All Standards are encouraged to join & we even have a special Order of Merit for player's with a handicap of 21 & above.

Golf Review 2009

Although a relatively small golf section, the players from it have had a good record in national competitions in 2009. In the National Pairs we placed 7th. The National singles saw two players competing from Herts, both finishing in the top 20. In the Sheriffs Cup we came 11th & also in 2009 a player from Hertfordshire represented England in the winning side in the annual England vs Scotland Match.

At District level, 2009 saw Herts host one of the best attended events for many years at The Shire GC, Mark Saban played extremely well & managed to qualify for the 2010 Four Nations Event. The Luxfor trophy will be represented by players from Essex. Unfortunately no golfers from Herts faired to well at the second District Event.

In our own events turnout was mixed between some very well attended events & others that we need to try & improve on for next year.
Lee Digweed retained his player of the year title in a season which has seen his handicap reduce dramatically to 8, congratulations to him. Ray Constant won the 21+ handicap Order of Merit. Hopefully we can attract some more higher handicapped players next year to make it a bit more competitive for him.

Qualifying for the 2010 Sheriff's & Intoto Cups are well on their way with only 2 events left to complete the process. The new format seems to have worked well & qualifying is proving to be a close run thing, possibly all the way down to the last event in March.

During the year we also held 3 Inter Station events. Borehamwood taking the honours in the Summer Scramble & Tralee Cup while Potters Bar prevented the clean sweep by winning The Winter Scramble.

Important information regarding Handicapping

In the society we closely monitor handicaps to ensure that all of our events are played fairly.

If you wish to join the Society or just want to play in the Inter Station Events it would be advisable to get a recognised handicap. If you would like to gain a handicap I would be happy to calculate it for you, please follow this link for an explanation on how to do it.

Failure to have a handicap will result in players wishing to play in HFRS Events only receiving a maximum allowance of 18 strokes until a proper handicap can be established. (unless a player is already declaring a handicap of 18 or below)
