Welcome to the HFRS Golf Society

The HFRS Golf Section not only has it's own internal Golf Competitions, it is also the platform for golfers in Hertfordshire to represent the county in National Events like the Sheriffs Cup. The opportunity is also there for players to represent the East District & England Fire Brigades in National Events.

The Golf Section is keen to increase it's membership so that it can ensure it's continued success in national events & to also just enjoy the game of golf.
All Fire Fighters, whole time, retained & retired are welcome to join the HFRS Golf Society as are non uniformed staff within the Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue Service. All Standards are encouraged to join & we even have a special Order of Merit for player's with a handicap of 21 & above.

2010, The Season So Far ( upto the 1st Aug)

Although a relatively small golf section, the players from it are continuing our good record in national competitions . In the National Pairs we finished inside the top 20. The Sheriffs Cup team managed a very impressive 6th place & in the National Stapleford we finished 3rd. A player from Hertfordshire (Mark Saban) represented England in this year's Four Nations Event.

The size of the section is getting bigger which in turn is making our competitions & qualifying much more competitive. I know there are more golfers out their of all abilities that could be encouraged to join.

In our own events turnout Has been on the up with the exception to the event which took place at Royston where only 11 players took part.
At about the halfway stage of the season Carl Blackett is heading the Leader board & qualifying tables while Roy Chin is heading the 21+ Order of merit Competition.

So far this year we have held one inter-station comp (Summer Scramble) & it was Potters Bar that added that to their 2009 Winter Scramble win. We still have two more Station events to come so keep an eye on the fixture list on the website.

Important information regarding Handicapping

In the society we closely monitor handicaps to ensure that all of our events are played fairly.

If you wish to join the Society or just want to play in the Inter Station Events it would be advisable to get a recognised handicap. If you would like to gain a handicap I would be happy to calculate it for you, please follow this link for an explanation on how to do it.

Failure to have a handicap will result in players wishing to play in HFRS Events only receiving a maximum allowance of 18 strokes until a proper handicap can be established. (unless a player is already declaring a handicap of 18 or below)
