Rules of GolfThis page is intended to highlight the importance of having an understanding of the rules of golf. Although Golf is a relatively straight forward sport, the rules can sometimes seem complex or even petty at times. This being said, the rules are there to ensure fair play for all competitors. Believe it or not there are only 34 rules of Golf, however within these 34 rules are sub categories & explanations of the rules. There is also a seperate book with the 'Desicions' & 'Interpretations' that have been made since the time when Golf became a competitive sport. Although most Golfers do not know all of the rules, ignorance is not a defence if breaches of these rules occur. Penalties for such breaches can range from 2 shot penalties, to disqualification from the tornament. Matches played within our Society are mainly qualifying competitions for National Events, therefore an understanding of these rules or what to do if you are not sure about a ruling is vital, an incorrect desicion on your part could lead to the whole team being disqualified. Even taking advice from another player giving you the wrong ruling will not be sufficient defence to a breach of the rules To try & guide the way I have included a link to The Rules of Golf from the R & A website. It is worth spending some time having a look through, although daunting at first it could help you with things that you are not quite sure of. Click Here to view The Rules of Golf Alternataveley & my preferred method is to buy the book, 'Golf Rules Made Easy' This is an easy to follow book that shows diagrams of actions to be taken. Although not as comprehensive as the book from the R & A it will provide you with most of the answers to things that you may come across out on the course. I have found this to be an invaluable addition to my golf bag & it has come into use on several occasions for myself & playing partners in competitions that I have played in. I would highly recommend that everybody who wants to play competitve golf get a copy, it could save you from the fate of being disqualified from a competition.
